• Amiga 1200 vs. Dial-up C64 BBS

From Snobsoft to All on Sunday, July 13, 2025 16:26:56
    Hello Everyone!

In this video I bring back to life a 30+ year-old Amiga 1200, install a terminal program from scratch (without any working disks with a CF-Card!), and attempt to dial into a nearly 40-year-old Commodore 64 BBS called snobsoft using a vintage 2400 baud modem.

But first, I had to figure out how to even get terminal software running—no easy feat after years of silence from my Amiga. To complete the setup, I borrowed a classic 1081 CRT monitor from my Amiga 1000. Needless to say, the old hardware didn’t exactly behave itself…

Thanks for the video link. What is the dial-up number for snobsoft?

    Thanks!

    You're very welcome!

At the moment, Snobsoft is only available via on-demand dial-up. The phone number shown in the video might change soon—hopefully, the BBS will eventually be accessible via dial-up 24/7. But we can definitely arrange an appointment if you'd like to call in. I always have to set up a few things beforehand. Do you happen to have a cool old-school computer you could use to dial in?

    what is 'on-demand dial-up'?
Can someone go on a website and click a button and it's ready for calls?
Or do you just have it up whenever?

Also who is 'we'? isn't it just you?
